Fear and Skydiving
Ok, apparently it’s the all fear weekend! I came across this video, actually awhile ago, but I couldn’t bring myself to watch it for some time. The description of the thud and all that just skeeved me out and despite knowing how it ends, I couldn’t do it.
I finally did and it’s pretty stunning. The thud wasn’t as bad as all that and the description saying the guy unconscious when found didn’t seem to be accurate. The video is the helmet cams of a skydiver who’s chutes didn’t open properly as well as his partner’s behind him who had a bird’s eye view of the situation. The whole thing is really amazing and worth watching from start to finish if you’re that sort of person. The interview is pretty amazing, too.
That he had the presence of mind to realize it was all over, remember he was wearing a helmet cam and say a quick farewell stuns me. If it were me, there’d just be a lot of screaming and probably cursing. But the thing I take away from all this is that when skydiving you can do everything right and things can still go dreadfully wrong. This set back my skydiving aspirations quite a bit, let me tell you.
