Breakfast Links: Starbucks, Twinkies and iPhones
Ok, remember last season’s project runway? Remember Michael Knight (the designer not Kitt’s less talented partner)? Well he’s got this site up for Starbucks where you can make a custom graphic based on the customized drink of your choice! Apparently there were free t-shirts at one time, but no more. The thing, though, to come away from this with is that you’ll notice that Michael Knight is now Mychael Knight! Did he have to do this because he’s famous and didn’t want to compete with the Hoff for Google’s love? Oh snap, ok, I just went to his homepage (mychaelknight.com) clicked through the splash page where you come to a page where the Knight Rider theme plays automatically and there’s some background text. All throughout that text he’s still Michael. I feel pretty sure that he had to change his name for Google reasons. That’s pretty awesome. I’m glad that David wasn’t named Felix because I’d hate to have to change my name to Felyx.
Now we have a newsweek piece on deconstructing the Twinkie. I ate no shortage of these in the days of yore and was comforted by the notion that I was pumping so many preservatives into my body that I would be preserved long after I shuffled off this mortal coil. Sadly and surprisingly there’s only 1 preservative in Twinkies (check out the related piece) and the shelf life of these golden bundles is only 25 days! I feel like a little part of my childhood just died.
Lastly we have a bit of old news, this guy who took a few days out of his busy schedule to write some software to en-iPhone-ize his winmob device. The video is pretty sweet, it seems like just a skin for the first half or so, the sort of thing you’ve seen on a bunch of other phones, just a pretty launcher. Be he gets to some interesting parts later on where he has this unlock slider that’s pretty sweet and he does the flick scrolling through his songs, which looks pretty amazing. If that’s the work of one guy for a little while - it’s pretty great - the craziest part is that he won’t releasae the software for fear of apple. Sad for the world! Check out his blog, scroll down and look for the iphone posts. I weep for my Treo.
