Prepared for a small screen.
UPDATE 2: Saw the movie! Yay for me! Check out my review of 300.
UPDATE: So, because it’s been a long time since I was this psyched for a movie, all the IMAX shows were sold out through friday at least and my wife understands these foibles of mine, I’ve got our tickets for thursday at midnight!! (technically the beginning of friday the 9th) Not much longer now… For the record, I’m still pissed off at moviefone and am coming around on Fandango which I used to hate on principal because of those horrendous paper bag puppet commercials they have. But the site is actually pretty good if you give importance to things like usability and technology, which I apparently don’t.
Grr. So, I hate moviefone. I’ve been checking moviefone for advanced sales of 300 for a few days and moviefone showed nothing. Today I find that fandango was the place to go and that all the reasonable IMAX screenings are already sold out, no Thursday midnight and no Friday from 7pm on. That totally stinks. I’m going to have to see it on a small screen with regular movie sounds. So sad. Hate moviefone.
Nevertheless, I’m still prepared for glory. 300 is definitely amongst my favourite of all time graphic novels. There’s nothing I don’t like about it - the artwork is fantastic, Frank and Lynn at their peaks. I love that he took from history only what he needed and turned some basic facts into the core of a story and makes no bones about any historical accuracy of events or appearance. He does a profound job of telling the story with few words and a strong visual presentation.
I learned about the movie many months ago when my friend Chris pointed me at the production blog. I watched avidly as the video journals unfolded about how the production was going. The look of it is amazing, I think they really captured the visual style of the novel. And the words of the director show a real appreciation for the graphic novel. I don’t doubt that the movie will be different in many ways but I believe it will stay true to the spirit of the original work.
Honstly, I can’t imagine how the movie could stack up to the excitement I have for it. But believe you me, I am ready.
This IS SPARTA!!!
ok.
