Remote controlled safety
So, it seems that the minds at Boeing have decided that being able to take over piloting a plane by remote control is the best way to combat air terrorism. This system is described as a “tamper-proof autopilot system which uses state-of-the-art computer and satellite technology.” Now, I don’t know if this is a great idea or not, but my mind balks around anything that calls itself tamper-proof. It turns out security is really hard to do and there’s all sorts of ways technological and social to bypass it and if a way is found to circumvent this it means the hijackers won’t even have to be on the plane. Schneier talked about this several months ago. These things worry me. Personally, I’d rather see something like more secure cockpits or something.
