Breakfast Links: Dr. Who Theme, Skywalk and Chris Ware
Check out this documentary on the creation of the Dr. Who Theme song from the early 80’s. This is really cool, that guy shows you how he busts out that signature “ooooo-EEEEE-oooooo” (you see how I disagree with the Wired writer’s transcription? He started with a woooo, but it sounds more like oooo to me, yeah, that’s right.) My favourite part is when the guy hits his metronome (click track) and the interviewer follows up with “precise tempo… i see… yeah…” Good times.
Then news that the Grand Canyon Skywalk is about to open. Don’t ask me why I link to BBC for a Grand Canyon thing, that’s just how it goes. Anyhow, it seems pretty cool to me and seeing as how I’ve never been to the Grand Canyon, I’m glad this’ll be there when I do. There are a couple photos and renderings of it that make it look distinctly unimpressive, if you ask me, but I still want to check it out. That glass walkway is cool, it’ll be like walking up the Soho Apple Store’s stairs, but you know, over the Grand Canyon.
And if you are a fan of This American Life or Chris Ware, check out this animation - it looks like flash to me, but I dunno. Mr. Ware has animated a 4 minute segment and it’s pretty great. The segment itself, although I’m not a big This American Life guy, is really good.
