Breakfast Links: Hypersonic Space Planes, Wolfgang Puck and the French Foreign Legion
The future is now! Seriously, they’re making a Hypersonic Space Plane. That definitely must mean it’s the future - I’m sure I wasn’t expecting to see anything that assembled the words hypersonic, space and plane into a single noun anytime in my lifetime. I could definitely go for a plane that, travelling at mach 25, gets me from DC to Tokyo in two hours. Who even knew that hypersonic was a real measure? Transonic and supersonic are so early 2000’s, and don’t get me started on Stetsasonic.
In other good news, Wolfgang Puck is putting the kibosh on foie gras and generally getting a little more down with the Humane Society. They’re not buying eggs or meat from poultry producers who are factory farming their animals either. That’s pretty good news. The Farm Sanctuary has been protesting them for awhile now, although Puck says that that didn’t have an effect on their decision.
And lastly I’ve always been fascinated by the French Foreign Legion (and the Alien Legion, too). I’m not sure what it is about it, but there’s definitely a mystique. And this morning I’ve come across this foreign legion diary. It’s kind of an awful looking site but it has a lot of photos and other related pictures about a guy who joined the legion. It’s interesting, although I wish there was more text about the experience of doing it. I recently watched a reality show that I thought followed an incoming group of enlisters going through basic training, but disappointingly it was just a show with random people going through “legionnaire basic training.” So my fascination with the legion goes on unfulfilled. Maybe I should put up a personal ad like this guy, I wonder what he hoped to accomplish by listing “Resistance to Interrogation” as an interest.
