David Mack’s Shy Creatures
I came across David Mack’s table (of Kabuki fame) at ComicCon NY the other weekend and saw a mockup of this book. I was terribly excited to see him doing a children’s novel - unfortunately it isn’t out yet. The book is in a style so different from his usual and is pretty amazing, it’s very simple and Dr. Seusslike in it’s way. The book tells the story of a girl who wants to grow up to be a doctor for shy creatures. (shy creatures being the legendary beasts pursued by cryptozoologists)
Shy Creatures looks pretty great and I’d love to know more about why these elusive creatures have been so historically shy. You can read more about this in an interview with David Mack on newsarama. It’s a nice interview and it’s got several pictures from the book (I love the frame that has a sweet looking Lochness poking her head in). Good times, due out in September 2007.
