I was talking with Ben the other day about what movies we were looking forward to. And with that simple conversation was born a new list of 8!

I’m not really going out on any limbs here, I don’t think. I mean, it’s mostly summer fare and that’s all about big productions, right? Turns out it’s a good summer for those of the nerdier bent. So here we go, in no particular order:

· Spiderman 3, Sam Raimi, May 4 [trailer]
I read that this was going to be the last one and they seem to have pulled out all the stops, with the Hobgoblin, Sandman and Venom. Nice! I can’t wait for the bell scene - although the costume seems to be more fabricy than liquidy as it was in the comics.

· Stardust, Matthew Vaugh, August 10 [trailer]
You know, Neil Gaiman. Nuff said. Ok, I said nuff in this post.

· Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surver, Tim Story, June 15 [trailer]
Sure the first one wasn’t that great, but this one has two things going for it. It still has Jessica Alba in it and it has the Surfer. It looks to me like the animators were inspired a little too much by Terminator 2, but still, the Surfer looks good (certainly better than the Thing) and I’m going to see it. Dammit.

· Transformers, Michael Bay, July 4 [trailer]
Autobots wage their battle to destroy the evil forces of… the Decepticons! The Transformers! More than meets the eye! I don’t know if they’ll be able to top the musical scene with the garbage bots from the first movie, but here’s to hoping!

· 28 Weeks Later…, Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, May 11 [trailer]
28 Days Later was the first zombie movie I saw that wasn’t simultaneously making fun of zombie movies and was pretty good, too. So even though it’s a new director hopefully it’ll still be good, I do have some concerns though that it will suffer from “more of the same” that so many sequels do. The trailer seems to give it more of a Resident Evil feel than a 28 Days Later feel. We’ll see.

· Beowulf, Robert Zemeckis, November 16
Ok, I’m a Neil Gaiman fanboy. Sue me. But ever since I read Seamus Heaney’s translation of Beowulf, I’ve been into it. They should teach his version in schools and not whatever version I read. I’m really looking forward to this movie.

· Blades of Glory, Josh Gordon & Will Speck, March 30 [trailer]
Will Ferrell and Jon Heder are a figure skating couple. Did I need to say anything else?

· Bourne Ultimatum, Paul Greengrass, August 3 [trailer]
I like Matt Damon (he won me over with “who’s house? run’s house” in Dogma) and I’ve liked all the Bourne Movies. I see no reason to stop. Do you?

Now for honorable mention…

Now, I won’t say that I’m exactly psyched for Fanboys, but I’m curious to see it. Check out the trailer. And I admit to wanting to see the new Pirates of the Caribbean and Live Free or Die Hard. I like Johnny Depp and Bruce Willis (although isn’t Bruce in like every movie this year?) and Keira Knightley doesn’t hurt the picture, either. But no Die Hard will ever be as good as the first, Alan Rickman rocked that movie out of the box.

So there it is, let me know if I’m missing something. Or if I’ve gone crazy. What’s on your list?
