Breakfast Links: Century Bet, Bee Vase & The War on Terror
Ok, get this. In the UK some guy made a bet with his bookie that he’d live to 100 (he was 90 at the time). He put up £100 and the bookie gave him 250-1 odds. Jokes on the bookie cause this guy decided to live the safest life he could, just to pick up the cash, lived to 100 and is has won £25,000 for his troubles. Here’s the wierd part - apparently this living to x age is a whole thing over there. Here’s a quote from the bookie:
When we started taking these bets, 100 years old seemed to be an almost mythical landmark and we were prepared to offer massive odds. But these age wagers are starting to cost us a fortune.
So they’re raising the age to 110!
Moving on… this crazy guy Tomas Gabzdil Libertiny (that’s a pretty badass name) put some bees to work for his art and busted out this vase made by the bees. It took 40k bees a week to make. Blah blah defying mass production blah blah nature making a man made product blah beeswax comes from flower, vase holds the flowers blah blah blah. It’s a vase made by bees. Now even some bugs are more talented than me. Great.
For something less depressing than talented bugs, check out War on Terror, the boardgame! Games sold out in the US already, but I think they’re printing more, so never fear. The Axis of Evil is a spinner on the board, not quite as good as Pop-A-Matic dice, but I’m down with shades of the Game of Life. It looks pretty awesome, if I knew people that would be seen playing a boardgame with me, I’d probably get it.
