Breakfast Links: Transformers, Fixies & Lego Lunchbox
This is a strangely compelling video of people in Transformer costumes… transforming. It’s not so much that it’s a bunch of grown men in home built robot costumes that is interesting, although, yes that is something to think about. It’s that the actual process of transforming has a sort of flow to it, kinda just like the cartoon. Some of it is, I suspect, theatrical on the part of the guy - but some of it has to do with making the costume move in some necessary way - the Optimus Prime one towards the end is pretty sweet. Check it out. They’re more than meets the eye.
Sometime ago I heard about fixies when my friend Robb started riding one. They seemed cool and they appealed to me in that way that hardcore things do. I mean, a bike with no gears, no breaks and no ability to stop pedaling - there’s no denying that that is hardcore, right? Yeah, something about mechanical efficiency and being able to really have control and all that good stuff. And then I thought about what that might mean for me, and the death it might rain down on my head if I should try to ride one of those around NYC and decided to stick to my wussy 24 speed with breaks. Wuss.
Lastly - how much would you have loved yourself if you had had this lego lunchbox growing up (via gizmodo). Ok, how much would you love yourself if you had the lunchbox, right now? Don’t deny it. I mean, it doesn’t necessarily have to be pink - I bet they have some other colors, too. And you can have regular food in it, too, it doesn’t have to be just lego food. That wouldn’t be as nutritrious. Although it would be crunchy. Very crunchy.

I had Bullwinkle lunchbox when I was a kid. I kept it for years, but it disappeared during a move. I don’t even want to think about how much it would be worth today.
