So we posted a bit ago about how some ABC exec thought that the Geico caveman commercials were the most hilarious thing he’s ever seen and that he should actually make a sitcom on his network starring them! WOW! Great idea, guy! You may shocked and awed to hear that someone who’s seen the pilot doesn’t think it’s all that great (care of Howard)…

Here’s some of the payoff from that review:

Making matters worse: The pilot uses different actors in the Cavemen roles and none of them are nearly as effective as their advertising counterparts. One of them actually reminded me a little bit of Sanjaya.

Would Geico advertise on this thing? My guess is they’d pass.

Here’s the thing, if you’re the type of TV executive who is inspired by insurance commercials - that is, your creative level is watching tv commercials - maybe you shouldn’t be second guessing their creative decisions? Maybe you lack that certain creative spark and need to recognize that in yourself…

How many scripts do these guys get every day? By people who are super talented just waiting to make the next hit? How do you.. How.. ok.. nevermind. The horse is beaten. Hopefully soon the executive will lose his job.
