Yeah, it caught me by surprise when I followed a sign for this well-known manga shop down into the basement. After my eyes adjusted to pink everywhere, I noticed that there were only females in the store (from teens to 40s). Then, I noticed that maybe most of the end displays were devoted to "boys' love." (Yeah, it's what you think it is -- to a degree, anyway)

I then realized this area, where I'd shopped during a previous visit, had now become the notorious "Otome Road."

That's wierd, indeed. And I didn't know girl otakus got a different word!

It's funny that the thing targetting women still is staffed by women. Heh!

Heh... I can actually match some of the costumes to the shops. How sad is that?

If you think maid cafes are odd, Akihabara's first butler cafe just opened. That's females crossdressing as bishounen (pretty boys) catering to females. There are other butler cafes, but otome (girl otakus) tend to hang out in a different district.
