So I just read the rumor that Google’s buying Feedburner. I’ve been talking to Scott about this forever - a lot of times when there M&A activity in tech, I tend to think it’s not the best move or at best is neutral - this, though, is one that I think makes good sense. Feedburner’s analytics can be folded into Google Analytics so that you can get one comprehensive view of all your stats from rss reading as well as web visits (Feedburner’s existing stats package is ok, but not nearly as robust for web info as G’s). I’m not sure if it makes sense but Feedburner could be integrated even more tightly into the ever popular Google Reader. And as a high volume intensive system, I suspect their service will become even better in G’s house. Plus the ability to extend advertising into RSS - since Google knows all the contextual info about the parent website and the particular post each rss entry is, it should be a slam dunk for them. This is one acquisition that I think is good for both companies, I’d also not be surprised to see G in talks with Technorati. Time will tell!
