You know, living in NYC I’ve heard more than my share of nightmare stories about bad landlords. They seem to always be trying to get one over on you, they care about their buildings only enough to ensure that the building itself doesn’t completely collapse and maybe not even then, they’re always trying to figure out how to raise rents, etc..

I thankfully, never had to deal with that much since up until a couple users a go I was a proud homeowner. A couple years back, I sold and moved downtown and am renting - it was not without a little trepidation that I did it, but nevertheless here I am. Fortunately, I seem to have found myself with a really great landlord.

The live in super is very good. They recently redid all the hallways, installing brighter lights and changing the dingy carpet with some sort of marbley floors. Anytime I’ve seen anything like that it was always done for the sole reason that NYC lets you increase rents by a lot if you make big improvements like that so I braced for the worst. But, no, my rent went up only $50 after that. When my refrigerator broke it was replaced quickly without any question with a brand new one.

Given how bad it seems to be able to get, I feel pretty lucky to have landed where I did. That’s all, I just wanted to inject a little good news into the somewhat depressing landscape of bad landlords. You have any tales of your landlords, good or bad?
