Star Wars turns 30!
Wow, today’s the day. Episode IV was released 30 years ago today! Remember the good ol’ days? You know the movie where Han shoots first? Poor Greedo, he didn’t see it coming.

I am celebrating by dressing up as Yoda and running around Union Square telling people the force is strong within them. Ok, I’m not really going to do that in real life, but I will be doing that on the inside - you know, in my mind.
So let’s take a moment to reflect on the goodness of the first three episodes (gloss over the Ewoks please, and ignore any retroactive ruining Lucas’ “Special Edition” and Episodes I-III did). Ahh… there it is. And remember you can get your new Star Wars stamps today. You can also stroll down memory lane with the good folks at sfsignal.

I saw Episode IV about a dozen times when it first came out. I was in high school. I remember sitting there awestruck during the opening scene, as that battlecruiser stretched across the screen. I’d never seen anything like it. At the time, it was the most perfect movie EVER.

Yeah, I was too young to have seen it in the theaters but I’ve seen it a few dozen times in my life. Something about it is just great.
