You know I totally love the new Battlestar Galactica. Probably as much as I loved the early seasons of Buffy, which is saying something. You know I also love a successful wiki, wiki’s without a lot of content I find a little sad. But a good wiki is a thing to behold.

Now what do you get when you combine that? Why Battlestar Wiki, of course! You can always tell when a wiki (or any online project, really) is successful - when it has an internationalization process. Totally awesome.

But what I loved about this site is that they have a whole page dedicated to the history and usage of the word Frak. You didn’t even know the word had a history did you? Don’t front, I know you didn’t.

I won’t say it’s the best part of the document, but I think it shows you the level of detail the writers put into the show:

“Frak” is derived from the Original Series expletive, “frack,” a term used in character dialogue far less often (or “colorfully”) than its counterpart in the Re-imagined Series. The Re-imagined Series’s production team said they felt that “frack” should be a four-letter word, hence “frak”.

Seriously, they thought about that. It’s one of the few sci-fi new slang words that I feel works - not since Miller penned the original Dark Knight has there been such a thing!

Plus the dedication that the authors of this article put into showing all the different ways that Frak is used and conjugated is really impressive. I personally always like this one:

“I guaran-frakkin-tee you, I will put you down this time for good.” - Starbuck

Good times. Go watch some BSG now, I know you want to.
