Brighthand’s Palm Predictions
So you know I’m interested to find out what Hawkin’s has up his sleeve for the big conference. As far as I can tell, it’s the only thing standing between Palm and imminent doom. Well the staff at Brighthand has layed out their predictions for what it is.
I gotta say, I hope they’re wrong or I hope that if they’re right that the piece is somehow much more than what they’re saying. ‘Cause what they’re saying is that he’s “invented” a UMPC or tablet pc or any of a variety of technologies that have tried to make it already and failed because no one actually wants one.
I mean, ok, so the Hawk is apparently the name people are attaching to the device (not a Palm name, just something to call it - you know cause they guy’s name is Hawkin’s, see how they did that?). That’s good. But if the major innovation on this is the new Linux based OS I’ll be super bummed. I mean, I’d love to see their new OS and god knows it is looooooong overdue, but if they’ve got it, why wouldn’t they put it into their Treo smartphone line? You know the one that is making all their money?
Other than that, all the predictions are about a device with a bigger form factor than the treo, with some wifi and bluetooth. Oh and GPS. There is not one iota of anything revolutionary in any of the predictions, except one who thinks that maybe there’s some Numenta sauce poured on - which could definitely be cool, I don’t know how, but it seems like a cool thing. :)
So to sum up - their predictions are all about Hawkin’s announcing a product that has already failed several times by other companies in the past many years. Possibly with a new OS that would be better off revitalizing their current smartphone line. Please, let them be wrong. Because even if that device is cool, it isn’t going to save the company.
