Breakfast Links: UK, Seven Wonders & Speed Racer
Ok, so you know I’ve spent no shortage of words on the UK recently. I mean, they just make it so easy, what with all their flushing their phones down the toilet, sure one time I dropped my pager into the can - but that was a long time ago! And then there’s their recently revealed new branding/logo for the London 2012 Olympics that is pretty unbelievably awful (and some publicly donated alternatives). But I really wanted to get back on top of their civil liberties problems and how at least now there’s a film that is trying to raise awareness of their dwindling rights. Taking Liberties, directed by Chris Atkins, hopefully shines the spotlight on this problem for them. Hopefully.
I have periodically come across the site New 7 Wonders that wants you to vote on the seven wonders of the modern world. Such still around antiquities as Machu Picchu, the Great Wall and the Taj Mahal. I hadn’t really thought about it in a long while, but mefi just told me that there were only 31 days left to vote and then that’s it! Now, I’m not really sure why they are the arbiter of what should be the new 7 wonders, other than their domain, but you know, it’s somewhere to vote online. Their site is a little cheesy and requires you to give them your email, but for all these things you can always turn to Mintemail to protect your privacy!
And no one told me, I had to find out all by myself that the Wachowski brothers were making a live action Speed Racer! Now I’m conflicted about this on many movies - remembering the indignities they heaped upon me with the second two Matrices. Wondering how they’ll do all the CG stuff with the car. It will feature Emile Hirsch as Speed and Christina Ricci as Trixie. Matthew Fox as Racer X? I gueeesss I’ll be ok with that. I do love John Goodman as Pops. That’s awesome.

F,
I cannot believe you did not pick this one up. Have you no love for riotous muppets? http://youvert.typepad.com/blog/2007/06/best_thing_ever.html

Huh! I completely didn’t see that. I’m out of the loop! Interestingly enough, I have another muppet based tidbit waiting in the wings. :) Thanks for the pointer, that is pretty great. People have a lot of time on their hands.
