Jeff Victor’s Paleman Jeff Victor’s Tusken Raider
monday. monday. art. art.

You know a lot of people think that MetaFilter has gone down hill these past years. But I still read it and it’s posts like this one that remember me why that’s so. It not only notes that this summer has not one but two Judd Apatow films (Knocked Up and Superbad), but it goes the extra mile to discover that the casting director behind those two movies, has also cast Freaks and Geeks (curse you fox for ending this show!!), The Office, Arrested Development, Family Ties and Borat! That, my friend, is what I’m talking about.

And check out this lady who’s working with Weta Studio to make some robot reptile to help her study the behaviour of the tuatara lizard in New Zealand! It’s pretty interesting until she makes a glaring factual inconsistency:

“These are animals that spend perhaps 95 percent of their time sitting motionless. So if they are forced to do something that requires big bursts of energy, then that’s really costly,” she said.

Nice, that beats both my cat’s and my own record for sitting motionless, but wait, what does she follow it up with?

For example, it appears that just 25 percent of the males produce all of Stephen Island’s young.

Now, how does that math work out?? Let me tell you, those are very active males.

And we’ll leave you with this Miho Hatori video for Barracuda (see how I did that? That was the blogging we, distant cousin of the royal we). I like the song more sometimes and less other times, but the video is interesting. Doesn’t it remind you of those 60’s/70’s blacklight posters?
