Apple recently announced that they hit 1 million downloads of Safari for windows in 48 hours. I think this is a testament to iPhone hype more than any dissatisfaction with current browser technology. If I had to lay a wager, I’d guess a lot of the downloads were from folks who also downloaded Firefox, more of technology experimenters as opposed to the folks who found IE on their computers and that’s what they use.

It will be interesting to see how many of these people actually continue to use Safari, there really is just no compelling reason to use it (particularly on windows). It is arguably faster, but the other browsers aren’t slow by any means. And FF has so much more functionality that if you were going to switch, it ought to be to that browser. At least, and impressively, Apple already patched the several security flaws that were found in the Safari Beta. That was fast!

iDay is less than 2 weeks away! And you thought it would never come.
