Microsoft and Yahoo in the news
Huh, well Microsoft caved to Google demands to open up Vista to be friendlier to third party desktop searches (or Instant Search, as it’s known to Vista). I guess they couldn’t hold out any longer against the might of our Justice Department! It’ll stash that in a “test version” of Vista Service Pack 1 by the end of the year. Microsoft will also provide more technical information to third party developers. Man, that’s gotta hurt them. Google, obviously, is happy and looking to take their inch and make it a mile. One almost feels bad for Microsoft, almost.
In more annoying news, Yahoo and News Corp are talking now - Murdoch wants to trade MySpace to Yahoo for a 25% stake in the expanded company. Now I don’t know this from that, but does that seem, you know, crazy to you? In what possible world is MySpace worth 25% of Yahoo (technically less than that since News Corp will keep a 25% stake in MySpace, too, since it will be part of Yahoo). Isn’t this all just shades of back in the day when people thought that it was a good idea for AOL to buy TimeWarner? Digg is pretty hot now, too, maybe Digg should buy Viacom?
