Missed Opportunities
I was just IM’ing Ben about cybersquatting and what not and it reminded me of two things. First off, that I hate cybersquatters - I’ve been stalking a domain since 1997 to run my family email and what not off of. Every year come September I watch whois religiously thinking it’s going to be my time only to have the damn domain renewed. I’ve even emailed two or three of the owners (it’s changed hands over time) and asked to purchase the domain. Nothing. Grrr.
After I was finished being pissed about that, I remembered one of the first domains I registered (back in 1995, when me and Howard were going to go into the web business together) - codered.com. We did nothing with it and some dude emailed us and was like “Hey, you aren’t doing anything with the domain, can I have it?” And we were all like, “Yeah sure dude, all for the common good. Peace and love to the world. We would also like to buy you a pony.” And with that we dropped probably the greatest domain name I’ve ever owned. Said dude ran his own personal page on that for awhile. Unfortunately I just looked - what’s there now? A big ad for Mountain Dew Code Red. Man, me and Howard coulda gotten PAID!! Curses!!
