Mini review: Arcade Reality v1.2
So you know I totally dug Arcade Reality. So it was with great psychedness that I received an email from the creator that he’d incorporated one of the changes I thought would be cool - that is, the ability to take a picture of something and use that as the badguys. Well, I asked and I received. There’s now the ability to make custom aliens. Check out the video to see it in action.
Obviously the first thing I did was snap shots of my brand spanking new Cthuhlu Vinyl (with Tiny Victims ™) and my Cthulhu plush and have them running around my living room as death dealing aliens. Let me tell you it makes a difference shooting at anonymous aliens vs. saving the world from the dreaming god (in plush and vinyl form). It is lovecrafticly awesome. It looks better than I thought it would in game and thanks to the previous version (1.1) “bitmap aliens now explode in a much more enjoyable way” which is completely true. They really do explode in a much more enjoyable way, I’m not sure what exactly he did, but it’s quite satisfying.
I played the asteroids mode too, and was actually able to destroy some asteroids and space ships (unlike before where I didn’t even come close). Again, I don’t know what the difference was, but it was an actual playable mode which was gratifying. The remaining issue I have with it is that it is difficult to tell whether you are looking at the top or the bottom of the ship, especially when it is at a distance - some more contrasting colors for the top and bottom would help that out a good bit.
All in all, the already super cool game has done nothing but get better since I last reviewed it. If you’ve got a treo I definitely recommend trying out the free demo. I’m pretty sure you’re gonna like it.
