Breakfast Links: Voltron, Wikipedia Wars & Human Nature

Reebok is making a line of sneakers inspired by Voltron! The 5 lions of voltron (i.e. the good one) not the one with all the vehicles. Sneakers! Can a live action movie be far behind? I mean after Transformers, I presume GI Joe and Thundercats will grace the silver screen and after Speed Racer hits, wouldn’t Voltron and Battle of the Planets (with 7-zark-7 of course) be a natural follow up? Of course it would.

Wikipedia’s generally a copacetic place but there are some things that just get a nerd all riled up. This wikipedia page lists some of the lamest edit wars to date. It is pretty fantastic not to mention incredibly long, apparently there were many, many lame edit wars and this page doesn’t even have all of them. I love the one’s for C Sharp, Wii and Invisible Pink Unicorn.

And then there was Psychology Today’s piece entitled Ten Politically Incorrect Truths About Human Nature. And when they say politically incorrect, they aren’t joking around, with such points as:

When there is resource inequality among men—the case in every human society—most women benefit from polygyny [one man married to many women]: women can share a wealthy man. Under monogamy, they are stuck with marrying a poorer man.

The only exceptions are extremely desirable women. Under monogamy, they can monopolize the wealthiest men; under polygyny, they must share the men with other, less desirable women.

Ladies! Ladies! Don’t worry there’s enough of me to go around! Even for all you desirable ones!

It is the combination of polygyny and the promise of a large harem of virgins in heaven that motivates many young Muslim men to commit suicide bombings.

Many middle-aged men do go through midlife crises, but it’s not because they are middle-aged. It’s because their wives are.

In other words, men are not treating women differently from men—the definition of discrimination, under which sexual harassment legally falls—but the opposite: Men harass women precisely because they are not discriminating between men and women.
