Yosuke Ueno - Sleep House

So Howard sent me the 411 this weekend. Apparently JJ Abrams is producing a new movie which has very Cthulhuian overtones. Not much is known but there’s a trailer for it showing before Transformers (which I still haven’t seen…) [UPDATED the trailer to be the official apple one, thanks to Howard!]. But there’s also a crazy viral puzzle/game/video site - Ethan Haas Was Right. From that people are thinking it might be a little Lovecraft in the making given references to the Mad Prophet and stuff. The games are hard, but if you’re lazy you can check out the spoilers. I figured out a few, gave up on a few more and couldn’t handle the last one. I was talking about the trailer with Chris last night and we couldn’t remember, but JJ Abrams directed Mission Impossible III which I still hold against him. And they already did the grungy video with the Lost viral marketing, can’t he come up with something else? So, you know I’m excited, but not that excited.

And I just signed up for ZipCar last night - it was a little impulsive and the goodness of it seems to be a bit in question as prices on the weekends are higher than weekdays and we’re not sure if there are ever any cars available on weekends anyways. I guess we shall find out! But if it doesn’t work out, there’s a new service in town - The New York Bike-Share Project. Right now it’s experimental, but it’s based off a system in place in 8 European cities. If it works more bikes, more places to pick up and drop them off and all that good stuff. Sounds interesting, although, this would probably be for the casual biker (since unlike a car, it’s fairly easy to have a bike in NYC) - and I wonder how many casual bikers there are in the city. Really, biking in the streets requires some getting used to and you’re taking your life into your own hands when you do it.

Lastly, those wacky guys at Nintendo have come up with their craziest “game” yet. Face Training for the handheld Nintendo DS comes with a camera and shows you a picture of a face doing some odd thing like scrunching your mouth and opening your eyes wide and then your face (via the camera) on the other screen so you can see how you’re doing. Check it:

The idea is what the Japanese call “facening,” or facial exercises. By doing certain facial exercises, you can make your skin more elastic and have a prettier face

Fortunately, my face is already pretty enough, so I don’t need any facening. But I’m glad that this both has a name as well as a game to get you some elastic skin. Still, the camera attachment is sweet, I suspect there’ll be some more DS software coming out that’ll take advantage of that. Maybe a little wireless video calling action!
