Breakfast Links: Olympic Logos, President for a day & Manga Shakespeare

So you’ll remember the travesty that is the the London Olympics logo, right? Well Tokyo just unveiled its logo for the 2016 Olympics (via darrenbarefoot) as part of it’s bid. They say that it represents a traditional knot used to decorate gifts, which after they told me I can see. But really, when I saw it two things came to mind - first a noose and second, by only fractions of a second were those rainbow ribbon cables found inside some electronics. Don’t try and deny it, it looks just like one (see my fantastic google images find?). Nevertheless, despite (or because of) that imagery, I still like the logo. Maybe it’s just that anything is better than the London Olympics.
It isn’t often that you’ll find anything about the Make-a-Wish foundation here, not that I disapprove of it or whatever, quite the contrary, just you know.. But that changed when someone’s wish aligns with my own! Sterling, a 12 year old boy, wished to be the President of the United States! That’s my wish, too! I bet he’d be better than the one we’ve got now! Sadly, the foundation could only make it true for a day. Maybe someone can wish simply that we get a good president in ‘08.
And lastly, you know we likes the manga. You may also know we likes (some of) the Shakespeares. Fortunately for us, now, we don’t have to divide our time between the two! That’s right a whole Manga Shakespeare series (by SelfMadeHero) is unfolding before our very eyes. Their first two, are Hamlet and Romeo and Juliet. The bookslut dug R&J with it’s present day setting and all that jazz but gives Hamlet a pass because it’s future/cyberpunk setting wasn’t satisfying enough.
The adaptation sets the story in the year 2107, complete with cyberpunk technology. This would be brilliant if the adapters could slide this seemlessly in. But what we have is characters in fancy dress plugging little tubes into their necks or hands without any indication of what they hope to gain by such.
Please! As if we need a reasons to plug little tubes into their necks and hands?? Believe me, if we all had sockets in our necks and hands, that’d be reason enough to plug things into them.

That London logo is terrible. An excellent find on the cable photo. I wonder if Tokoyo isn’t not so covertly trying to make a statement with it beyond the whole knot explanation.

Yeah! I was kinda thinking that, too. It’s a very high-tech look in general what with the font and the glowy white gradient. And now that I think about it, I think that google said that cable picture was from a Nintendo… hmm… wheels within wheels… :)
