So the intermatrix is abuzz with talk of the recently discussed next version of Windows. No details emerged but the target year and codename “Windows 7.” Can Microsoft, with all those billions of marketing dollars, not pick a coherent naming strategy for their main product? Windows 95, 98 and then XP and then Vista and now 7? I mean, even charitably if this is 7, that makes Vista 6, XP 5, 98 4 and 95 3, except for there was already a 3 and even a 4 if you count NT. Am I the only one this bugs? Probably.

Beyond that it seems the Microsoft still has no goal of simplifying their product line. While they didn’t annnounce any specific SKU’s (the OS is still just in a planning stage after all), they said there would be 32 and 64 bit versions as well as consumer and business versions. And they were thinking about a subscription model, too. Looks like they’ll need an online wizard for 7 that’ll help you figure out which one you want to get.

Anyhow, that’s the news today. I’m in the wedding home stretch this week. Things might get crazy in my household.
