1,500 Inmates do Thriller
So this video of 1,500 inmates performing Thriller has been making it’s way around the innertubes (most recently I saw it on youvert). It’s pretty good, the “girlfriend”, an inmate in drag is surprisingly good, although being good at being a woman in the prison doesn’t strike me as a good long term investment. But who knows? I was curious, though, to see what this place was all about, and lo and behold an article with just that explanation. This quote tells a little about why there’s all these videos of these inmates performing:
Security must be approached not only physically but also from the cultural and behavioral context.
Inmates at the CPDRC are required to go through a workout regimen. While the goal is to keep the body fit in order to keep the mind fit, such may not actually happen if it is not done in a manner deemed pleasurable. Music, being the language of the soul, is added to that regimen.
The article makes it sound like a pretty progressive mentality, but who knows. Alls I know is I got a video of 1500 inmates doing Thriller.

I can’t believe they got all of them to cooperate to do all of that. That was a pretty good video.

Lol, definitely mad karaokeing going on at that prison.
And I guess all the cooperation is all part of their rehab!
