Breakfast Links: Squirrel Spies, Zune 2.0 & Dogfighting RC Planes

High speed art for a low speed monday
The news everywhere is reporting on the latest security threat to the world… squirrels! I always knew that lot of bushy tailed rodents couldn’t be trusted.
“A few weeks ago, 14 squirrels equipped with espionage systems of foreign intelligence services were captured by [Iranian] intelligence forces along the country’s borders. These trained squirrels, each of which weighed just over 700 grams, were released on the borders of the country for intelligence and espionage purposes. According to the announcement made by Iranian intelligence officials, alert police officials caught these squirrels before they could carry out any task.
My question is… how do they know that they were caught before they could carry out any task? Countless nuts could have been buried (or unearthed??!!) by these squirrels prior to being caught, who would ever know? Dastardly.
“I read this story in the papers and though it was very bizarre; what struck me as odd was that in this age of modern technology, people were relying on squirrels to do their spying,” Sopli said.
Exactly, if you could predict the cunning ways of the spy agencies, then they wouldn’t be very good at their jobs! This was the obvious next step (obvious in hindsight!)
So Microsoft has just confirmed that they’re going to get some new Zunes out the door for christmas (via /.). They didn’t provide any details on these second generation zunes, which is interesting. Normal mode for Microsoft would be to announce that these Zunes not only had better music squirting abilities, 2 terabytes of storage and fit on the head of a pin but also cooked you breakfast and kept you from balding. This all in the name of making you hold off purchasing a new music device to wait and see what happened. Here they seem to be playing coy and just announcing the device. That seems smart to me, could the era of Microsoft over promising and under delivering be at an end? I can only hope.
And if you always wanted to conduct some bi-plane dogfighting in the safety and comfort of your own home, be at ease, the Palm Z Micro Plane is here! This super light RC bi-plane lets 3 of them fly at one time, so you can see who’s the top gun in your group - I’d definitely be the Iceman, it’s the way I fly, ice cold, no mistakes. I wear you down, you get bored, frustrated do something stupid and then I’ve got you. If only they armed these suckers with like teeny nerf guns or something. That’d be serious fun. Oh, and that’s Mr. Iceman to you.
