Breakfast Links: Solid State, Wikipedia & Ugly Outfits
You know I completely dig notebooks with solid state drives. Well, trusted reviews just gave several thumbs up to Sony’s latest, the sexily named VAIO VGN-TZ12VN. Mmm… it just rolls off the tongue, I don’t know how their marketing people can come up with such distinctive and easily remembered names! Say it, VGN-TZ12VN… yeah… hrm..ahem. So this little beauty is small, fast and light. Clocking in at a respectable 2.4lbs with a quite a high res 11.1″ screen (1366×768!) it’s pretty great. The solid state drive seems to make a noticeable performance difference. Strangely they don’t mention any battery life in the review, something else I’d love to know. The only downside to this is the hefty price tag - prolly somewhere in the vicinity of $4k. A little searching though, didn’t reveal any online sellers, sadly.
Moving right along on our little nerd theme here - Wikipedia’s had some bad accuracy press in the past but now they get a little just with this page on errors in the Encyclopedia Britannica that have been corrected in Wikipedia. That’s pretty awesome, I can remember all those must EB volumes growing up - filled with knowledge… knowledge that I generally wasn’t interested in. They did not, after all, tell me anything at all about the star wars trilogy. And now they get a little pie on their face as well as Wikipedia schools them on Real Numbers, NP problems, Leap Years and the NSA (and many more, too!). Good times.
And lastly this little beauty on the internet - Ugly Outfits New York. Very much the opposite of the sartorialist this site is dedicated to the man on the street with some questionable fashion tastes. It’s funny since it isn’t a very nice blog, unlike the Sartorialist which gets great front on shots of people clearly aware they are being photographed, this one is all back shots of people clearly unaware. :) Really though, it’s the minimal text that does it for me with titles and captions like “Greetings From Jones Beach”, “TT toucan is crying” and my favourite “She’s Crafty.”

[...] is coming to the MacBook? I’d also like to know if we’re going to start seeing some solid state drives in these bad boys. And will they be using that crazy port smushing patent that Apple filed to help [...]
