Breakfast Links: Laser Trucks, Diekus & Magicwheel
Cool, the US Army wants laser trucks! That’s right, lasers! Here’s what I read from the article:
US arms and aerospace manufacturer Boeing announced on Friday that it had landed a contract to develop truck-mounted laser cannons for the US Army.
Laser systems which can actually blast stuff blah blah blah zap enemy bombardments out of the sky blah blah but a laser - if it could explode its targets reliably blah blah blah This sort of money is chickenfeed to Boeing.
Chickenfeed! I wonder what sort of money is chickenfeed to me. Hmm…
Well, that was interesting, onto some more local news… local man Nick Beef has apparently been putting up stickers around NYC for years now creating a new art form called Diekus (via mefi)! They’re pictures of a series of gravestones using the last names to create a haiku. Dig it? The art is kind of not that impressive looking, but the concept is pretty funny. I don’t know why I’ve never seen any around the city, though, I must be hangin’ in all the wrong places.
So, I’ve long held a theory that skate things are moving towards fewer and fewer wheels. Here’s another step in that direction, the Magicwheel! Basically a skateboard with a bike wheel in the middle and a little support wheel in the back. The board itself remains low to the ground, so the bike wheel juts up to mid thigh level. It seems kinda cool, apparently you can hit 20mph just from kicking, which is kinda nice. But then there’s the big wheel inches away from your crotch, which seems like the sort of accident you just really don’t ever want to have, especially at 20mph. No?
