An iPhone in my not so distant future
So, my Treo 650 for some reason wasn’t working while I was away (although, it seemed to have a couple bars of signal). So, when I finally got back into range it kicked in - kicked in so hard it threw itself into a reset loop. This was great - I forgot how to hard reset, so I had to just pull the battery and be phoneless for awhile. Which was fine since I was on the way home anyway but had this happened another time, it could have been really awful.
Then yesterday it was getting really hot and the batteries were draining very rapidly - it went through two full charges during the day. For no apparent reason. Nothing was different. Just like how today nothing changed and it seems to be behaving normally. This is my second 650, only about a year old (my other one kicked the bucket prior to this one after dieing a long and lingering death).
I’m not waiting for this lump of plastic to go, maybe this weekend I’ll pick me up an iPhone, pay T-Mobile their cancellation blood money and see how life is on the other side.

One way or the other? What’s the other way? Lucky you mr. month to month. If my previous treo hadn’t died, I’d be in that camp too. Sniffle, sniffle. Palm’s costing me a heck of a lot of money.

one way is shelling out the bucks at the apple store.
the other is buying it used from my cousin (who still has to carry around his bberry for work)
and the other other is going for the ebay score.
also, in an unrelated post, lookit here:

your old diggs are giving it to the masses, as soon as they fix the software you obviously messed up when you were there.

Considering the amount of iPhone posts you have for a non-iPhone owner, it’s about f**kin’ time. “Stop whinin’ and bitchin’ and just buy the blasted thing already!” was often on the tips of my fingers. ;-p

Oh, and get me one of those new iMacs while you’re at it. ;-)

what’s the educated opinion on apple care? worth the extra ducats? for the iphone? For a puter? I ain’t buyin’ no after market iphone, that’s for sure, I’m to wimpy to handle that.
As for not having one yet, well… it still isn’t ideal! And it really wouldn’t take much to make it ideal - that’s the sad part. But in the face of a dieing 650 I guess I gotta do what I gotta do.
And I can’t get you a new iMac, I’m too busy getting me one. :) I’m giving Apple a lot of my hard earned cash very soon now.

I only buy Applecare for laptops as I tend to carry them around a lot so stuff gets jostled around and things go south more often. I don’t think you’d really need it for a desktop. iPhone, I can’t really say. They seem built solidly enough but who knows. I’ve never had a problem with iPods though.

I used my Applecare multiple times on my Powerbook … new screen, several new power adaptors, I forget what else. It was worth it. You can’t self-repair a laptop very easily. I also got a new iPod when mine croaked and have several friends who did the same …
Apple machines sure can break, and when they do, can be damn expensive to fix. But balance all those Apple Cares against just buying a new one or living with a spotted screen or dead USB port and maybe it’s not worth it?
