So you know I don’t have very much respect for the Official Palm Blog. It has been a really terrible blog for pretty much it’s entire existence. But I just saw a reasonable post on the Foleo where they actually seem to be doing some marketing and try and develop a little excitement around the li’l guy.

I mean they go into a bit of depth about their plans to really build a developer community for the Foleo, a tactic which sets it apart from the current belle of the internet ball - the iPhone. They talk about some of their plans and show off their small but growing list of software companies signed up. The most interesting one in that list, to me, was SixApart which I found to be a savvy move on their part. LogMeIn, also, is quite a cool name on the roster.

I think one wierd issue with this is that it is Yet Another Development Platform - so now app developers need to be pursuaded to develop for another platform that isn’t windows, osx or even Palm OS. I think that will be a tough sell for the fledgeling device - although if this linux OS rolls out onto a new generation of Treo’s (Gasp!) it could take of.

Even the video of Hawkin’s didn’t really disappoint as all his others have. He talks about something new and fresh and seems actually interested in it now (in all the other videos I’ve seen of him he seems very disinterested in the product). I hope that the Palm blog does more posts like this - I loved my Treo 650 dearly for years, which is, I suppose the problem. They never brought anything better than it in all those years - and now I’m dumping company for a shiny new iPhone. I doubt I’ll regret it, but maybe, just maybe Palm will come out with some new devices that are genuine upgrades to their venerable Treo line and they’ll woo me back.

Of course right after that good post, they do another terrible post showing a grainy awful video taken by a Treo - the badness of which is highlighted by the several still photos they posted not by their Treo but by their canon digi cam. Sigh. There’s nothing wrong with posting non-topical posts, well maybe there is given the official capacity of the blog, but at least you still need to have a good portion of the posts on topic and highlighting the strengths of the product line present and future.
