Well, I won’t say I called it (even though I did) but a Voltron movie is now underway. And by “now underway” I mean has been in the works for nearly three years, so by “I called it” I mean people other than me called it a really, really long time ago but you know. However, check out this vomitous quote:

Marks’ take is described as a post-apocalyptic tale set in New York City and Mexico. Five ragtag survivors of an alien attack band together and end up piloting the five lion-shaped robots that combine and form the massive sword-wielding Voltron that helps battle Earth’s invaders.

When was Voltron, especially the Lion Voltron, about post-apocalyptic Mexico?? Lame. Maybe if it was a remake of Thundarr the Barbarian that’d work (ooh that Ookla was so precious!), but Voltron? Please. Hopefully, at least, movie Voltron will still solve all it’s problems at the last minute by the judicious use of the Blazing Sword!

Then we come to social wallpapering (via mefi). I never really thought of wallpapers as a topic of social discussion, apparently I was wrong. I tend to think of it as something domain specific, that is, I love foobar widgets or some niche topic and I show my love by showing that widget or whatever on my desktop. Apparently what society really loves, as listed by “most popular” on the site is pictures of space and super color saturated pictures of the beach or other bodies of water. Huh.

Lastly, I’m not a Harry Potter reader - I read the first one and enjoyed it, but was not compelled to read on. But I know you are, so to rain on your parade here’s Christopher Hitchens review of Deathly Hallows. It has spoilers so you have been warned. He didn’t particularly like it. He asks some questions that I have wondered at while watching the movies (although I understand that the movies are much simplified versions of the books), but you know, it’s not all about perfect continuity and plausability it’s about suspension of disbelief which apparently the books were really good at. So there you go, the a dissenting opinion on the goodness of book 7 and the series as a whole.
