Joss Whedon interview
I just came across this Joss Whedon interview (all praise to SFSignal). It’s remarkably long and remarkably interesting to read. A lot of times in a long interview like this, even if I like the interviewed person, I sometimes get bored and won’t read through the whole thing. This was pretty good the whole way through.
He talks about a lot of stuff. I, for one, didn’t know that his Wonder Woman script is now dead - I thought it had already been green lit but apparently it wasn’t and won’t be. Sad. I also didn’t know about Goners, the new project he’s working on, also not green lit but hopefully it will be. He talks about the comics he’s doing and it makes me want to read them, but then I remember how not really interesting I found the first three issues of Buffy Season 8. I don’t know if I need to get back into Angel again. Although I admit I did like Astonishing - although I didn’t keep up with it. I’m just waiting for the trade paper to come out.
It’s definitely worth reading and I’m glad he and I see so eye to eye about spoilers and trailers! I hate spoilers, for any movie I particularly care about I don’t want to know anything. My friends have felt the unwitting brunt of this neurosis, but that’s just the way it is. So much about the movie for me is discovery, being surprised and delighted at what happens - if you know the trick or know the ending, you don’t get the full impact of the movie. I will go to great lengths to not be spoiled. On the other hand, I do love trailers - man, remember the Popcorn Channel? I don’t know why that never took off, but I’d watch that all the time. For most movies it’s better than watching the movie because it’s all the good parts and none of the bad. And I kind of think of it as fair game - mostly they don’t spoil anything major in the movie and only give you hints about it. Sometimes it gives me the wrong impression, which is a drag, cause I go in expecting one movie and it takes awhile to sink in that it’s actually another. Better Luck Tomorrow was that way for me - but I loved that movie all the same.
Anyhow, if you dig Joss, check it out.
