Breakfast Links: GenCon, Isotown & Ebay
You know I grew up playing D&D, I played my first game when I was 6 - my older cousins let me in on one of their games. Growing up, I always wanted to go to GenCon - but only did well after I had stopped playing during college (I went to Chicago, a hop and a skip away from Wisconsin). But some people, and I’m not naming names, ruined the whole experience for me. At least I saw a drive in movie while I was there. Anyhow, this year was the 40th Anniversary of GenCon! 40th! Who knew?? Apparently there’s going to be an animated DragonLance movie which is pretty interesting. That GenCon report is pretty long so if you are into that sort of thing it’s worth reading. Flickr tells all.
As far as fantasy worlds go, there’s this very odd comic Isotown. I don’t know what to make of it - it started with a basic drawing of a small house and some text and apparently has been growing - it’s kind of like a town crier of a growing town. I kind of don’t like it, but I also kind of find it compelling because of the strangely obsessive nature of the thing. Take a look, but you have to look at a bunch to get a sense of the oddness.
And here’s a fantastic outcome of an Ebay auction for some Pokemon cards. If you check out that auction the auctioner weaves a whole tale about how her 6 kids snuck these cards into the grocery while she was shopping and now she’s selling them. This spawned an incredible amount of interest to the auction (finished at $142.51) as well as to her blog (500 visits was her previous big day, now it’s 77,000)! Apparently, this outpouring of love also resulted in not one, not even two, but three job offers! Who knew that Ebay was the big way to promote your blog and find work (not that that’s what she was trying to do)! Gotta get on it…
BONUS LINK: If you’lll remember my links to BatsDay 2007, it has now come and gone and Flickr, as usual, knows all about it.
