Palm Centro Leaked
Huh, lotta Palm posting this week. Anywho… Gizmodo had a shot (hopefully real) of the upcoming Palm Centro on Sprint. We’ve all see those other rumored shots of it and those ones were terrible, but this one is actually not bad.
It is hard to get a sense of the size of the device, but it looks noticeably smaller than the Treo, it seems like it could be sized to compete with more standard candybar phones. Here’s what my concerns with it are, the biggest one would be the usability of the keyboard. If it is noticeably narrower than the standrad Treo line, I’m not sure how typeable that’s going to be. The other thing that makes me sad about it is the loss of the 5-way directional pad now ubiquitous on the Treo line. It really was one of the great hardware decisions of the Treo.
Nevertheless if that Gizmodo piece is right and it has a touch screen and EVDO(!!) and clocks in at $99, it’s actually a pretty compelling device. It’s hobbbled, presumably, by the PalmOS (or perhaps by Windows Mobile 6) but at that price point a touch screen 3G phone could actually be reasonably successful I’d think. This has actually piqued my interest again in Palm’s goings on.

But the “Palm” button in the middle could be a ‘Touch Sensitive’ 5-way nav… ya never know…

Chat, true.. I don’t know.. but at that size and that price point, I’m pretty confident. If they did do it and it worked well at that price point, I would be very impressed!
