Japanese SewerThese pictures of japanese sewer systems are amazing (via mefi). I can’t really tell if this is one sewer system or a bunch or when they were built (I don’t think this was built 2,200 years ago), but it’s definitely where you expect to spend your post-apocalyptic years hunting down (or, if less fortunate being hunted down by) mutant aliens, no? Yeah.

Speaking of mutant aliens, ok, well, maybe not mutant, but the Scientologists are under attack again in Europe! Yes, that’s right the Church of Scientology may have to stand trial for fraud and extortion and the best part it is recommended that they be labeled a criminal organization! And by best, I mean worst, I mean if Scientology goes down who will defend us from the thetans?? Thank god the Germans are on point with Scientology, they just rejected the attempt to ban Scientology.

And if we are ever to wage sweet war on the aliens what will we need? Yes, that’s right, a spaceport! Fortunately, Sir Richard Branson is looking out for the best interests of Earth and building us our first. As OhGizmo points out, it does look suspiciously like the Millennium Falcon. What I find particularly forward looking is how it’s built as a low lying structure, cut into the earth - naturally bombardment must have been a concern, as spaceports are well known to be the first targets of invasion. We’re ready for those damn aliens or we will be in late 2009 or early 2010. It will also be a great tourist destination.
