Just a little more Apple.
Ok, just a little more Apple news then I’ll stop, I promise. This last Apple show was a doozy so there’s all kinds of followup. First off, what the hell’s up with Wallstreet? I know there’s the old buy on the rumors sell on the news, but seriously how was that speech worth a 5% drop of AAPL stock price (note I used the new Google Reader search function to dig that link up)? Jeez.
Anyhow, I just read this short Q&A with Steve Jobs and found some interesting quotes from El Jobso:
Q: What do you say to customers who just bought a new iPhone for $599? Sorry?
A: That’s technology. If they bought it this morning, they should go back to where they bought it and talk to them. If they bought it a month ago, well, that’s what happens in technology.
Man, that’s a blunt answer! It’s true, but blunt. Not even a little sheepish. I kinda respect that. (oh, check out Mike’s post on some corpses left in this price cut’s wake…)
I especially liked this one, which affirms what I was talking about yesterday about Apple and new product releases:
Q: The iPod Touch is very similar to the iPhone — all that’s missing is the phone and built-in camera. Are you concerned about cannibalization?
A: If anybody is going to cannibalize us, I want it to be us. I don’t want it to be a competitor.
They just do it! It’s why they keep winning, they don’t wait. UPDATE: Here’s another interesting take on topic from the Macalope who raises the very interesting issue that the price drop wasn’t Apple competing against other cellphone makers but Apple competing against it’s own iPods. It’s a good read and another perspective getting at the same point.
Also, I really liked this Gizmodo piece noting that the era of white iPods has passed. It is pretty amazing to think how iconic the white iPod was and how Apple just isn’t afraid to move on from it. The white had spread from the iPod to their whole Mac line it was so important, and now? Nope, everything’s moving off it. Seriously, that’s great.
Am I the only one who likes the form factor of the new Nano? I liked it from the moment I saw the first blurry shots of it. It’s all squat and cute, seriously what’s not to like about it? And coverflow looks pretty cool on it, too - check out the video (via TUAW). Although, honestly, I don’t really use it that much.

Stock price drop isn’t surprising after a product launch since the stock usually has a big run up before the revealing. It’s the savvy (or some would say unscrupulous) traders doing their thing, making a buttload of money. They jack the price up and then short the hell out of it. Repeat ad nauseum.
I’m not particularly fond of the new nano design but then again I’d never get a nano, old or new. Squat and cute eh? Why don’t you knit a little hat with cat/mouse ears for it already. The chicks’ll dig it. ;-p

Yeah, what I’ve been reading is that people are also freaked by the price drop seeing it as a sign of iPhone sales weakness. Um.. ok. Please let it drop another buttload on this news and I’ll buy some more. :)
And seriously, if I knit, I would totally do that and that’d be my ticket to internet fame! I’d call it nano-chan and it’d have a built in wrist strap as the tail. Oh man. I need to learn how to knit.
