Huh, the Zune 2 was announced last night. It’s actually pretty reasonable, the 80GB is only marginally larger than the 80GB iPod. The control is touch sensitive so it works like a 5-way d-pad but you can also flick - which works like it does on the iPhone. That’s interesting, although flicking on such a short runway is probably not as comfortable as scrolling on a wheel. The wifi is much more useful now that you can sync and they took that horrendously stupid 3 day rule for squirting music (although they still have the 3 listen rule). They’re doing some other random stuff around it, it’s pretty reasonable, all in all. They definitely one upped Apple by rolling out all these software changes to all 1st Gen buyers. But it’s still (as far as anyone knows) QVGA (320×240) which is very, very lame. For reference that’s the same resolution that is on the iPod Nano. Yeah, the one that’s the size of a matchbook. Still, it looks like Microsoft is trying seriously to get in the game, we’ll see how this second round goes for them. Oh, and they dropped brown.

This move probably would remove them from the Encylopedia of Stupid. Although, strangely, they actually were never in said encyclopedia. Still, that oversight doesn’t make it any less totally awesome. It’s a wiki of stuff that people have decided are stupid and let me tell you that people have decided that a lot of things are stupid. My kinda people! Sometimes they’re a bit harsh, I mean Immanuel Kant? I heard that Immanuel Kant was a real pissant who was very rarely stable but stupid? Harsh… The Bill Gates page is pretty sweet, too. That picture never gets tired!

Another person who surprisingly, and I think deservingly, does not make it into the site is Crispin Glover! I always loved that guy since Back to the Future - he seems so genuinely messed up. You have to admit he was the perfect Thin Man for Charlies Angels. Anywho, MeFi pointed me to this youtube of Crispin’s first visit to Letterman. Which is utterly crazy. But then you can see his strange description of it from years later… For more, his next visit to Letterman was much toned down, but just as crazy in it’s own way. But the cherry on all that icing is the video of his song, Clowny Clown Clown (he refers to it in the second Letterman trip) that as far as I know he wrote, sung, starred in and directed. Craaaazeeee.

The best part of it, if there can be a single best part, is the closing frame (just under 3 minutes in) which says:

The Solution = Let it Be.

Crispin Hellion Glover wants to know what you think The Big Problem is.

Call (213) 464-5053

That’s awesome and not just because his middle name seems to be Hellion. You know what? I wouldn’t mind knowing what you think The Big Problem is, either.
