Here’s a quick quiz to brighten up your day, in the vein of Designer vs. Developer (or Programming Language Inventor or Serial Killer comes… Fox News Anchor or Porn Star! Totally awesome. I got 6 out of 10. Seriously.
Or, check out this NYTimes piece on Mr. Stephen Colbert’s facebook movement (he’s kind of a cross between a news anchor and a porn star, you know…). A random facebook group (1,000,000 Strong for Stephen T Colbert) was started by 16 year old Raj Vachhani and surpassed it’s goal of 1 million in 8 days. Obama’s group took 8 months to grow to 380k members. Crazy, I joined yesterday after I saw the group joined by a couple other folks in my news feed. Hot. Dog.
Lastly, you know I dig WarGames. That movie was the bomb, “I’m screwed. Screwed!” came out of my mouth in my best Broderick voice (which, admittedly, isn’t very good) for months after I saw it. But check out this post which is mostly about the IMSAI seen in Matthew’s room in the movie as a fancy blinking prop. Also, down at the bottom it talks about the ignoble fate suffered by the WOPR - broken up for scrap. I always assumed it was in someone’s basement, sold off in auction, happily blinking away. Sigh.

Sadly the WOPR was not long lived. :( And it was made mostly out of wood! Kinda like that “security system” that B.Dalton had in the Livingston Mall that consisted of two short wooden towers with a couple AA’s powering some LED’s on the outside. I can’t believe anyone thought that those were detecting the non-existing security strips on the various books.

They say a lot of those tinted camera hubs on cielings are fake too, but these days who can tell. May as well assume they are all real. BTW, thats how Felix saved up enough money for his first computer… Underground book railroad. Anyway, I wold love to have a rebuilt WOPR one day. It really doesn’t look all that hard to be honest with you. You could even have it make that same “thinking” sound they added with a small mp3 recorder. Get to it! Make Howie one too…
