Breakfast Links: Plasma Antenna, Lost Japan & Absinthe
Now they’re making some new fangled antenna that uses plasma instead of metal. So… it’s an antenna that uses heated gas and vanishes when you turn it off. Does this ring any bells? Yeah. This is so obvious it’s embarrassing, they’re making light sabers and using this “antenna” cover to keep it secret. Please, we are not so easily fooled.
Check out these crazy images of various buildings in Japan that have been abandoned and grown over. It’s all in Japanese but each one of them could be movie set for some post apocalyptic world. Why are there so many abandoned buildings in the middle of forests in Japan?? (the first 4 “file” links at the top work, the rest don’t seem to.) Seriously, if this abandoned amusement park doesn’t find it’s way into a movie, I don’t know what I’ll do - there’s a rusting ferris wheel there for the love of all that is good and holy. (via)
And speaking of olden times - the last traces of prohibition are finally getting gone. Absinthe is now legal to produce and sell in stores in the US (it used to be legal to bring in from elsewhere). It turns out that the hallucinogenic properties mythically attributed to the drink? Not from the booze but from the toxic artificial coloring found in the cheaper brands. Niiiice. I’ve never had it, but it’s distilled from anise and while I dislike black licorice I do like Sambuca and Aguardiente (Antioqueno), so perhaps I’ll like Absinthe. Huh, have you had it?

I have a bottle of absinthe at my house my british ex brought me over. Its quite disgusting to drink if you ask me. i thought it was distilled from wormwood? is that the same thing? Anyway, i never drank enough to go blind or crazy.

According to wikipedia, wormwood is just one of the ingredients. Anyhow, you’ve got other things to do to get you blind and crazy. :) Oh, and did you louche the absinthe? Apparently you gotta.
Also, as far as I know louche is the noun and there is no verb. But, it sounds so verby that I decided to go for it. That’s right, I totally live on the edge.

Re. the Japanese abandoned amusement park–I feel like Spirited Away was set there, more or less. But I guess cartoons don’t count.
