You know, back in my day when you had to actually work to find some anime and you’d like whatever you were lucky enough to pick up at some grubby, tiny comic con it was all bootlegs. Sometimes there’d be no subtitles at all and other times there’d be those crappy ones that some kid who knew a little japanese would do - that was the best. In college it changed and with the internet as the new distribution, everyone was into anime because it was so readily had and so well subbed. It seems that the anime industry has just now decided to hate those fansubbers for ruining their business. It is at the same time both completely fathomable and unfathomable that they would take that attitude - unsurprising because hey, it’s easy to blame others for your current problems (see also RIAA, MPAA). But surprising because it was those hardest core of fans making and distributing anime that created the industry here over the past few decades.

Anyhow, to wash the flavour of that out of your mouth here’s a sweet, sweet piece of gear, some kind of personal flying doohickey that you steer segway style with a little lean. That bad boy flys up 15 feet in the air, top speed 40 MPH?? You get a kit for $10k and can build it in a weekend and then the sky is the limit. See? This is why the military is good, they make all the cool crap and then it trickles down. Don’t even think about telling me you don’t want one… they even diss on hovercraft… they’re all “Dude, hovercrafts don’t fly, they just have ground effects - it’s so SkyMall… this shit flies… yeah, man…”

Perhaps given the conflation of high tech, military stuff and hollywood in the Sarah Connor Chronicles, perhaps we’ll see one o’ them make an appearance on the new show… maybe, we can hope. We can hope to see Summer Glau all kicking ass in one o’ those… Kicking sweet ass… Ahem… sorry. Please check out the new promo site for the show. It’s got all sorts of links and y’know… stuff for the show - which starts mid-january. I admit that I am mildly interested, hopefully it doesn’t suck. It is on Fox, which is never a good sign, but we’ll see… we’ll see…
