Firefox! Grrr. Arrgg.
You know? I just noticed that I never shutdown Firefox normally now. By the time it gets to the point where I decide the crazy sluggishness of Firefox is more annoying than the number of tabs and windows that I have open in just the right places are, I know for a fact that using a “Quit Firefox” just won’t do the trick. After 10 minutes of jumping from space to space and asking me if I really want to close all the tabs in that particular window it will just hang sometimes with windows still open or sometimes without any windows open.
So great. So now what I do is any tabs I really want to save I just bookmark into a dated folder and force quit Firefox. That’s like every 2 maybe 4 days. I’ve already started using Safari for about maybe 1/3 of my browsing needs - I dislike Safari and often have to move a page from Safari to Firefox if I need to check something out, but it helps me use FF a little while longer. Seriously, Firefox 3 can not come too soon.
It’s still the best browser out there for web development by far. It’s just so damn frustrating!

I think they McBusted quite a few things with the latest update.
Since the last FF update, anyone connecting up to our Juniper SA2000 Web VPN box gets a big, ugly blank screen.
I Haaaaaaate having to tell users the workaround is to use IE.

What, you want Firefox to read your damn mind and know what tabs are important and which aren’t? I think your on a mac, but I always have two windows, each with tabs, one for browsing and one for keeping. The browsing one is a simple few smacks of ctrl w and i am done. I love Firefox, but my alternative is IE so I theres not much of a high bar there on that one.

Michael - wow, that really does suck, recommending IE’s gotta hurt. I haven’t experienced much difference (for good or bad) with the last update. But if things were to go wrong, I’m not surprised it was with a VPN. Those things break when you look at them wrong, sometimes even when you look at them right!
Poyla, I want Firefox not to take a minute to open a new window. No mind reading necessary. :)

Spaces, Tabs, Windows, all this crapola. I dun use spaces much myself. Nor tabs… I guess I’m old school. I quit my browser about once an hour… to make sure my cookies, cache, and all that are cleared!!

Poyla… that’s me! whip-psshh!!
You don’t use tabs, Sean? That’s madness. MADness… I wouldn’t last two seconds in a world without browser tabs.

As I would not last 2 seconds in a world without toys.
I was thinking maybe more memory but what about this?

Something about making more simultaneous requests…. don’t ask me I just make stuff look cool.
Anyway I have never had any major issues like that in Firefox. I do clear my cache quite often due to web site updating but I doubt that has anything to do with over a minute of stall time. I agree that is inexcusable, even if it’s really only 10 seconds.
