RoundPicThere comes a time in every web2.0ers life where corners must be rounded. In an old GeekFindr we discussed CurvyCorners which allows you to round your divs (more or less) very easily if not incredibly efficiently. Now comes RoundPic which helps you round your images.

It’s a super simple tool that allows you to upload an image or specify a url to go and get an image. Once it’s got it it lets you choose a corner radius, image dimensions, background color (for where it cuts the corners) and jpeg quality. It’s super easy to check out different settings and preview how they’ll look till you get the right set. Then you are just a download away from your new web2.0 compliant image.

RoundPic is a very easy and straight forward tool to use. It is an actual image creator so there’s no lingering performance issues - you just end up with a new curvy image. What I would love to see added would be some basic border effects in addition to the rounding. Common things like specificying border colors or drop shadows would be a welcome and useful tool.

Also for your image resizing needs you might be interested in VectorMagic which first translates your images into a vector graphic which is then size independent. Some stuff works better than others, but this could be a good first step prior to rounding. Or check out the more experimental rsizr which utilizes extreme fanciness to try and resize your image not by compressing it but by stripping away pixels that aren’t as useful to try and keep the main point of the image intact and large. YMWV depending on the picture.
