Heroes PremierSo.. unlike season 1’s finale this one was better than the rest of the season. Of course, that’s not hard because the rest of the season was almost perfectly and unrelentingly crappy (save maybe the last 2 eps). It was decent, especially in light of the rush job to cut the season short due to the writers’ strike.

Some spoilers follow, so read on if you saw it already or don’t care…

Word, so. What I liked. Well, I liked that Sylar killed the second wonder twin but it was just a big fat tease. Seriously, wouldn’t you have loved it if that was the end of the twins in such an offhand manner? Boy that’d be an admission of the big mistake they were this season.

Ok, I liked the whole Sylar thing in general, he’s been the only one that’s been consistently good through this season (for all the very little airtime he got). I don’t think it’s necessarily because of any better writing, it’s just that he’s so creepy. That Zachary Quinto, he’s a good ‘un! I mean, the scene where the Maya blows Sylar’s powerless cover? That was awesome.

Well, I guess that’s it for the standout moments that I can remember. Most of the rest of the show was pretty good. Here’s my lowlights…

Don’t tell me you don’t wish Micah was the one stuck in that exploding building. Don’t. Seriously.

What the hell was up with Peter all in love with Adam? I mean that acting was “I’m under someone’s mind control so now I will kill you despite me being a goody two shoes” not “I think I’m doing the right thing here with this stranger, why are you behaving this way oh group of people who saved the world with me last time?” And you know what? if Hiro can teleport behind Peter with the sword like that, he could certainly have teleported behind frozen Adam and cut his head off, or teleported away with him.

And while it was bad ass to leave Adam buried alive like that it did seem a bit out of character, no? Where does nice Hiro come up with that idea? Who thinks Adam’s coming back, anyway?

And creepy glasses guy’s transition at the end of one scene from smug satisfaction about daughter’s actions to weepy dad in the next, was kind of off-putting to me. And the company throughout this season has been either an unstoppable force that can accomplish whatever they want, whenever they want, wherever they want or bunch of complete incompetent poverty stricken buffoons, depending on the needs of the writing. It’s really unbelievable how bad it is.

Their security monitors are the pc in dad’s office? Completely unmonitored? Didn’t you think that flashing light on the pad outside Mohinder’s lab was the cue to alarm the company that something untoward was happening? Don’t you provide Mohinder, your super scientist and the key to your true aspirations any sort of protection/guard/watch/chaperone? Um.. and everyone knows that Adam’s going for the vial in Odessa but the company can’t figure it out and do something to try and stop that? ARGH. Honestly, the Company has to be one of the worst bad guys I’ve ever seen on the teevees.

Ok, there were more lowlights but I’m done. Despite it all, the episode was decent, I was entertained and engrossed. Maybe it’s because the rest of the season lowered the bar so much I was ecstatic to see a mediocre show. Who knows. What did you think?
