You think? You may be right, my head's probably too into the trees to see the forest. But I think music portability seems like it'd be important to people - so being trapped on nokia phones with your big music library wouldn't seem like a big draw. Huh, more pondering necessary.

One thing - Amazon just handles MP3's - the purchase and download process (at least on my mac) was pretty darn good - you may want to give it a look see.

My li'l review, just in case. :)

DRM is a red herring. I still don't think outside of the interpages, that many people know or care what it is. The only reason anyone is removing it is it's the only thing they can compete with Apple on. God forbid they do something consumers really care about like lowering prices.

For Apple, it's kind of a win-win in a way. They get to look like the good guys for sparking this and if UMG won't allow DRM free music at iTunes, then you're still tethered to Apple's hardware. Personally, I won't do any business with Wal-Mart and I don't think Amazon is Apple compatible yet so I'll just stick with eMusic for my DRM free music.
