Huh, just found this piece on how the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music is going to start a masters program in animation. (via) Apparently this is the first of it’s kind in Japan? What? How can that be? Don’t we (in the US) have tons of courses like this? I’m surprised that Japan would be so late to the game and this program will have a mere 4 instructors and 16 students? What up wit’ dat? I guess you don’t need a masters to create kick ass animation.

On the other hand, you probably do need a masters to understand the need for the Doomsday Seed Vault - or the Svalbard Global Seed Vault - which is like a Noah’s ark for seed diversity, except it isn’t a boat and apparently is the work of evil people. This piece on the project delves off into crazy seeming land but I certainly don’t put it past Monsanto and Rockefeller and Gates to be doing bad in the world…

What leads the Gates and Rockefeller foundations to at one and the same time to back proliferation of patented and soon-to-be Terminator patented seeds across Africa, a process which, as it has in every other place on earth, destroys the plant seed varieties as monoculture industrialized agribusiness is introduced?

Terminator seeds!

And a masters simply won’t cut it, you need a PhD to understand this this surfer’s new unified theory of everything. Apparently way simpler than string theory is making waves (see how I did that? waves? surfing? eh? eh??) in the physics world with a new plan that has um… particles and dimensions and facets… and stuff…

Bonus Link! The Apple Store in the meatpacking district is set to open tomorrow night. I still think it’s a wierd spot to open the biggest Apple store in NYC, but hopefully it’ll help with congestion at the Genius Bar. :)
