Goals!

You know, I started this blog nearly a year ago mostly because I felt like I had a few things I wanted to get off my chest, oh and all the kule kids were doing it. I figured on three things - it’d be a place where a few of my friends might randomly convene and have little discussions, that I wouldn’t really get much traffic and that I’d get bored of it within 6 months. In fact what has happened is that it has, happily, indeed become a place that a few friends check out, while I get not a lot of traffic, significantly more than I was expecting and my interest has remained strong in the face of the onslaught of months.

I initially set the modest goal of getting to a 100 visits per day and 50 rss subscribers - I thought if I could get to that level in 2007 I’d be happy. Now, I’m easily passing 200 visits per day and fluctuating in the 90’s and 100’s of subscribers. The slopes of those two lines while not overly steep are clearly going up, which is quite encouraging. I use this blog as a testbed for technical SEO techniques, but I don’t do a lot of active editorial/network SEOing (for example… this here blog lacks focus, which is kinda rule #1) so I’m pretty psyched about my traffic levels. I figure since I write about the various and sundry things I’m interested in there’s gotta be other folks interested in them too, focus shmokus it’s the internets after all!

I recently read a tip suggesting that I post these goals, I gotta keep me honest, right? So, still keeping things modest I’m hoping that I’ll be able to get to 600 visits/day and 250 subscribers in 2008. A secondary goal o’ mine (but don’t hold me to it) is to increase the average pages per visit from the 1.5ish it is now to a full on 2. I think those are attainable goals without requiring any major insanity on my part. I do mostly try to avoid insanity.

I’m not exactly sure yet how I plan to get there. I will probably do a redesign at some point - this theme has been customized beyond it’s original goals and I think while clean and white spacey is lacking a little… je ne sais quoi, if you know what I mean. That’s right. French, baby.

So there it is, I’ll check back in a year and hopefully find that I’m still blogging and have easily met those goals. Keep your fingers crossed! Oh, and also, tell your friends to read this, the best blog ever typed by asian-american fingers. Seriously. You read my goals right?
