Thanks for the pointer, avagee! My main issue with phone reading is that I just don't want to do long form reading on my phone, y'know? My olde eyes get the strain after too much reading - I know lots of folks do it - but for me anything longer than RSS reading starts to get uncomfortable. Even from my Treo days I never read much.

While you wait for Kindle you can get some good reading done on your cell phone. http://www.booksinmyphone.com packages up public domain and creative commons books into a neat little reader that runs on java enabled cell phones. You can install direct to the phone from their mobile site. I found the most compelling aspect was the ultra portability of adding books to what I carry everywhere already.

Sarcasm! On this blog?? Not tolerable! ;)

I give them slack on this front because anyone can misjudge demand - it's their first (as far as I know) product and in a moribund industry (e-books? no one was talking about it at all). Let's see how quickly they can ramp up and how long the "sold out" sign stays up. I look at the Wii as an example of what I hope doesn't happen. :)

I wonder also, how quickly a big software update will hit and how quickly they'll roll out new hardware.

It's particularly impressive that Amazon is booking so many sales for a device they can't ship, or even commit to ship by a date certain or predicted!
